Reviews of ballistics expert reports

Checking an expert or specialist report from a complete set of documents. Preparing a written review and questions about the examination findings.

What we check

  • Whether the examination corresponds to the questions asked and objects supplied.
  • Completeness of descriptions of materials, methods, measurements and calculations.
  • The reasoning connecting examination results to findings.
  • Internal contradictions, omissions and verifiability of arguments.

What you receive

A written review analysing the report, with reasoned observations and questions for discussion with the expert and lawyer. Where necessary, questions for supplementary or repeat examination are prepared separately.

Documents to attach

The full report with all appendices and photographic tables, questions asked and the appointment document. List any particular objections in your enquiry.

Review cost

from RUB 45,000

The final cost depends on the report and appendix volume and number of questions checked. Price and timing are agreed after the documents are received.

Reasoning that must be traceable in a report

A documentary review must distinguish three levels: features described, how they were compared and the finding derived. General object similarity and a finding about their specific source are different assertions. Checking considers whether a final statement without explanation replaces the transition between them.

Questions about an answer's grounds

Which observations concern the object examined and which concern comparison material? Where are comparison results given? Were noted differences considered? Does the answer's certainty match the completeness of supplied data? These questions address verifiability of reasoning rather than a preselected outcome.

An illustration helps explain text when it has an identifier and an explanation of what it shows. Its presence does not replace an examination description. In turn, appendix-copy quality may limit a reviewer's capabilities; that limitation is separated from a deficiency in the original examination itself.

An observation should identify the page, assertion checked and missing connection to results. A review may show which explanations or additional materials are needed to assess a finding. It does not invalidate a report or determine a case participant's culpability.
